Magnussen with overtake on first lap on Gasly to put him p9.Perez had a good start with 1.9 advantage of Leclerc. Verstappen on lap 1 overtaking Sainz. Lap 2 Norris overtakes Gasly who may have problems. Lap 3 Russell overtakes Ocon with DRS on the straight he holds off Ocon trying to overtake again. Stewards noting incident with Norris and Magnussen at turn 4.lap 5 Gasly overtakes Norris. Lap 6 Alonso and Ocon battling on the main straight, Alonso being confident with the car he has fighting early on. Verstappen a couple of seconds behind Leclerc. Lap 7 alpine are fighting, Alonso overtaking into turn 1 with DRS. Lap 8 Ocon goes wide into the first corner and has to give the place back to Fernando was swerving on the straight before the braking zone. Bottas almost getting involved with Ocon and Alonso on the straight. Lap 9 alpine are stealing the show team principal are letting them race.
10-20
Lap 12 Hamilton making up 4 places in front of Norris. Alpines still battling out Ocon going off the track at turn 1, alpine showing respect for each other. Lap 13 Zhou given. 5 second penalty for gaining an advantage. Ocon being told to hold position and Bottas overtakes him. Hamilton up to 10th place in the hard tyres. Stroll pits for hard tyres, Albon in the pits on lap 14. Lap 15 considering the undercut for Ferrari. Perez pitting lap 15 for hard tyres he comes out behind Russell. Lap 16 safety car, Latifi in the wall, both Ferraris pit and Verstappen. The majority of the field pit. Got on the power too early and lost the rear end. Leclerc now in the lead behind the safety car. Sainz leaving the puts almost gets pushed off the track almost into the wall with Perez. Stewards may need to look at that as Carlos looked ahead.
20-30
Hamilton up to 7th. Gasly dropped down to 14th. Two McLaren 12 and 13. Sainz fighting for his position for the safety car restart. Safety car ending on lap 20. Everyone on the hard compound tyre Verstappen playing a trick on Leclerc trying to put pressure on Leclerc. Russell brilliant move to 5th to get Magnussen, Perez gave the placed back to Sainz now in p4. Just over a second between Verstappen and Leclerc on lap 23. Lap 24 Magnussen Hamilton battling out towards the last corner, Magnussen letting him past to then get DRS on the main straight. Lap 25 late breaking into turn 1 to overtake Magnussen on the inside. Quite a bit of battling so far in this race across the midfield. Verstappen complaining a couple of times about Leclerc car and now he has crossed the pit entry line, he did a similar thing a few sessions before. Daniel Richard of late breaking with a move on Hulkenberg. Zhou did not serve his full penalty with confusion with the front jack so he will have to serve it again.
30-40
Lap 33 Verstappen being told to play it safe and put the pressure on at the end of the race so Leclerc uses his tyres. Alonso getting a slipstream on lap 35 puts himself p7 to overtake Magnussen. Magnussen returns the favour the following lap on Magnussen, Alonso moving slowly and getting overtaken by almost everyone. Something on the car is overheating and has to retire form the race. Richard of also going slow may not get into the pits as he blocks the pit entry reports he has no drive. Bottas retired from the race on lap 38 lots of cars overheating and breaking down, Tsunoda also did not start the race because of problems with his car. Virtual safety car Marshall’s pushing the car on the track. Too late for Hamilton to box.
40-50
Hamilton with a 13 second advantage. If he made the pit stop at the right time he may be able to box and maintain a position. Lap 41 virtual safety car ended and Hamilton boxes as he is the only one not to do so. Hamilton behind in 12th place. Verstappen and Leclerc closing g up to each other and they are both on the limit Verstappen with slight oversteer. Verstappen taking the lead and Leclerc goes deep but holds the lead into turn 1. Lap 43 they are taking us back to Bahrain. Both lock up but Leclerc keeps the advantage. Verstappen complaining again about Leclerc crossing pit lane entry. Stroll and Hamilton battling it out stroll keeps the position. 5 laps to go and they are still keeping tight with each other. Verstappen takes the lead on lap 47 down the main straight Leclerc will still be giving it his all. Albon and stroll crash yellow flags. Leclerc tried with DRS but there was not enough for him to close the gap. Verstappen complaining and panicking but wins the race. Norris and Ocon racing to the line. Ocon making the move on Lando Norris on the beginning on the last lap. Leclerc respectful on the radio.
Summary:
50 laps made up the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix where we saw Sergio Perez take pole position in qualifying despite Leclerc and Verstappen being favourites. We are visiting Saudi for the second time after a dramatic race last year that was heavily involved in the title race last year between reigning champion Verstappen and 7x world champion Lewis Hamilton. In the first half of the race there seemed to be plenty of action particularly with the Alpine's. Esteban Ocon and Fernando Alonso were allowed by the team to race each other and provided an intense and exciting battle over the course of 10 laps they provided us with entertaining and respectful racing but unfortunately due to overheating issues Alonso had to retire from the race.
